Rep. King maintains his bigotry

March 10, 2008

Over the weekend Republican Congressman Stephen King said that if Obama is elected president terrorist groups such as Al-Qaeda:

“would be dancing in the streets in greater numbers than they did on September 11 because they would declare victory in this war on terror.”

He went on to cite Obama’s father being Kenyan, his pledge to withdraw from Iraq, and Sen. Obama’s middle name of Hussein.

The Congressman defended his bigoted statements when the Associated Press asked him about them:

“(Obama will) certainly be viewed as a savior for them, that’s why you will see them supporting him, encouraging him.”

This is the same bigoted fear-mongering that I’ve been saying was horrible from the Clintons and while it’s respected from the GOP slime machine, that doesn’t absolve the GOP of their responsibility to conduct the campaign in a civil, respectful, and civilized manner.

Of course, this is the same party which slandered a war hero and gave out band-aids with purple hearts to mock said war hero, so I shouldn’t be surprised when they sink this low.

The Governor and the Lady of the Night

March 10, 2008

New York Governor Elliot Spitzer, former prosecutor and crusader against corruption was revealed to be no better than those he fought. The governor was caught making arrangements with an expensive prostitute. Gov. Spitzer has broken up multiple prostitution rings in the past and had a reputation as a great moral crusader who was incredibly tenacious and refused to let people get away with their corruption. However, today’s revelation leaves him look like a hypocrite who was trying to deflect attention away from himself. Both wings of American politics have unanimously expressed disappointment with Spitzer, which has had the effect of exposing Republican hypocrisy. When Senator David Vitter was exposed as a client of the DC madame, the right-wings moral outrage was silent, however now that it’s a Democrat getting exposed they view his behavior as shameful.

I’m not defending Gov. Spitzer, as what he did was wrong, but at least there’s consistency with those who denounce not only Gov. Spitzer but also Republicans like Senators Vitter and Foley.
