Tom DeLay, former Senator, lobbyist, and alleged money launderer told conservative radio host Mike Gallagher that he believes Senator Barack Obama is a Marxist:
“I have said publicly, and I will again, that unless he proves me wrong, he is a Marxist,”
This of course demonstrates DeLay’s complete lack of understanding of just what a Marxist is. A Marxist would want the abolishment of religion while Obama is a committed Christian. A Marxist would explain history through the lens of class while Obama has explained it through the lens of hope, freedom, and equality. A Marxist would call for violent revolution while Obama has called for unity and peaceful reform. It’s clear that DeLay is simply spewing buzzwords to inflame, galvanize, and scare the far-right base.
Of course, Tom DeLay is also likely someone who wouldn’t shirk from spreading the lie that Senator Obama is a Muslim. Both accusations are not only lies, but they are lies which directly contradict each other. Of course, one has to wonder why the words of a man accused of breaking the law carry so much weight with the Republican party.
